Open Again, For Now, Trump Takes Action, Restoring Balance To The Courts

Open Again, For Now

Yesterday the Senate failed to act on two proposals to end the shutdown.  As a result, 800,000 federal workers missed their second paycheck today.

This morning, major airports began reporting serious flight delays due to an "increase in sick leave."  Flights at New York's LaGuardia airport ground to a halt.  Several air traffic controllers in Texas reportedly resigned.

Address Delayed

Late last night, President Trump decided to respect the prerogatives of the Speaker of the House.  He announced that he would delay the State of the Union address until the partial government shutdown ends.  Trump explained his decision this way:

"I am not looking for an alternative venue for the [State of the Union] Address because there is no venue that can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber."

Not content with shutting down the government, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi today shut down the State of the Union address as well.

After President Trump informed the speaker that he was accepting her invitation to deliver the address this coming Tuesday, Pelosi officially rescinded the invitation.

Saturday At The White House

Saturday was a big day for President Trump.  While thousands of left-wing activists were protesting in the streets, the president was busy working for the American people.

More than 100,000 people came to Washington last week for the March for Life.  Most were young, pro-life high school and college students.  Among them was a group of boys from a Catholic high school in Covington, Kentucky, near where I grew up.

March For Life

I love this day!  Every year hundreds of thousands of people come to Washington, D.C. -- in January! -- to march for the sanctity of life.  This is the 46th annual March for Life, and that tells you something about the dedication of the pro-life movement.

Second Lady Under Siege

The radical left is attacking Second Lady Karen Pence.  She is returning to the classroom to teach art appreciation at the same northern Virginia school where she taught for 12 years when then-Congressman Mike Pence served in the House of Representatives.

So what's the big deal?

Shutdown Showdown

It's Day 26 of the partial government shutdown.  Amid all the hysterical headlines of reduced economic growth and bankrupt bureaucrats, here's something you need to know:  Congressional liberals still refuse to negotiate with President Trump.

Consider these excerpts from The Hill:

Marching on Washington

There are two big marches this week in Washington, but I suspect you will hear about only one.

The 46th annual March for Life will take place Friday, January 18th.  Speakers will include: Abbey Johnson, Ben Shapiro, Dr. Alveda King, Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), Rep. Dan Lapinski (D-IL) and State Rep. Katrina Jackson (D-LA).  Vice President Mike Pence will address the annual Rose Dinner Friday evening.

The Deep State Strikes Back

Late Friday evening, the New York Times broke a huge story:  In May of 2017, the FBI launched an investigation into whether the president of the United States was a Russian agent.
