A pro-family activist and former presidential candidate says he supports the idea that it might be time for the United Nations to relocate outside of the United States.

United States Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colorado) recently introduced legislation that would effectively move the United Nations (UN) headquarters out of the United States. He introduced the bill amid incessant anti-American and anti-Jewish political grandstanding from the podium of the General Assembly. Gary Bauer, chairman of American Values, agrees with Congressman Tancredo's assessment.

"I have thought for a long time that the UN being located in the United States has long ceased to be useful for our country," he contends. "It is unable to act on major foreign policies challenges around the world. It's often the site of embarrassments for the United States."

Bauer adds that he is in favor of a UN alternative. "I'd like to see the next president pursue an idea that Senator McCain has talked about a number of times, which is to form a league of democracies of countries of free men and women that are committed to defending liberty around the world."

Even though that would obviously be a much smaller group of nations working together, Bauer believes it would have a great deal of leverage and power to deal with challenges on the horizon.
