BAUER CALLS ATTACK AD "A BADGE OF HONOR"

11/18/2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Former Presidential Candidate Gary L. Bauer on Friday called the attack ad unveiled this week against Judge Samuel Alito, which featured Bauer as a conservative supporting the nomination, "a badge of honor."

The president of American Values made the following statement:

"The coalition of ultra-liberal interest groups headed by the so-called People for the American Way represents the most liberal, leftist thought available. The extremist positions that they take – from support for homosexual "marriage," to rabid opposition to expressions of faith – are the reason that this nomination is so necessary. It's time for a discussion in this country about the kind of liberal positions that the courts have forced on the American family with the full support of groups like People for the American Way, Moveon.org and the ACLU.

Their sponsorship of an attack ad that notes my support for Judge Alito and distorts his record is an example of the 'Borking' campaign that has come to represent the way in which the Left behaves in politics today. Distort, deceive, delay ... these are the tools of the Left.

I am proud to support Judge Alito, and I look forward to a national conversation about whether our Supreme Court should be judging great constitutional issues or whether it should impose a radical liberal ideology on us all."
