Goodbye, Jerry Friends, I’m sad to report the passing today of Reverend Jerry Falwell. As the senior pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church, founder of the Moral Majority and Liberty University, Jerry Falwell had a profound impact on America. In many respects, I owe much of my success to Jerry: the Moral Majority, which galvanized Christians as a potent force in American politics, is often credited for playing a key role in Ronald Reagan’s election in 1980. He was a staunch friend of the family and to me personally. While his efforts earned him the admiration of millions of pro-family Americans, he was often singled out by the radical Left as the object of scorn and derision. I had the privilege of working with Jerry many times over the years, and was especially honored when he asked me to give the baccalaureate address to the 2006 graduating class of Liberty University. His faith in God and Country, his boldness in defending the family, and his friendship will be deeply missed. Please join me in prayer for his dear wife, Macel, and the Falwell family. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate his life. And with confidence in the values he so cherished, we will continue to “fight the good fight” for faith and family.
