March For Life

The March for Life is always a highlight of my year in Washington. I spoke to a number of pro-life groups this morning, including the Right to Life delegation from my home state of Kentucky.

Boehner's Warning

After every election, new administrations usually have a bit of a political honeymoon when the bitterness of the campaign is set aside and the nation's business takes priority. But judging from remarks made by Speaker John Boehner before the Ripon Society this week, the political atmosphere in nation's capital is as frosty as the sub-freezing temperatures Washington has endured lately. Here's what Boehner said:

"Obama The Liberated Liberal"

That's how one left-wing British newspaper described President Barack Obama after yesterday's inaugural address. Obama's second inaugural address was not much different than his standard campaign stump speech, just delivered on a grander stage.

State Court Declares Unborn Child A Person With Rights

Last week the Alabama State Supreme Court issued a ruling that has not gotten the attention it deserves, especially as the nation prepares to mark the tragedy of 40 years of abortion on demand. The Alabama Supreme Court was considering two tragic cases of children born to mothers who were drug addicts. In one case, a baby boy, Timmy, died 19 minutes after birth due to "acute methamphetamine intoxication."

The Left's America

As I watched the evening news and thought more about the president's press conference yesterday, I began thinking about how the left's reaction to the Sandy Hook shootings reflected the "fundamental transformation" of America that it is trying to achieve. The way the debate over the future of Second Amendment rights is unfolding fits a pattern that has been followed repeatedly over the last four years.

Obama vs. The Second Amendment

In response to the tragic Sandy Hook shootings last month, President Obama today unveiled a series of proposals aimed at limiting Second Amendment rights. Some, like expanded background checks, enjoy broad support in most polls. Others, like banning certain guns, are more controversial. The public generally wants the laws already on the books to be enforced, not more laws passed.

The Bully's Pulpit

Virtually every day since he won reelection, President Barack Obama has addressed the nation, made a speech, held a press conference or given an interview in which he has criticized conservatives or the half of the country that didn't vote for him. Obama is behaving as though he won a massive landslide. He did not.

The president got 51% of the vote. At the same time, voters returned a Republican majority to the House of Representatives and increased the number of Republican governors to 30.

Faith Under Fire

Last week, Pastor Louie Giglio of Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia, had to drop out of participating in President Barack Obama's second inaugural festivities. Pastor Giglio had been asked to deliver the benediction because of his church's incredible work fighting human trafficking.

So what was the scandal that led him to withdraw? Embezzlement? Adultery? Not even close. His liberal "sin" was the fact that fifteen years ago he delivered a sermon on why same-sex "marriage" contradicts biblical teaching.

"Attack On Second Amendment"

As expected, yesterday's meeting between Vice President Joe Biden and the National Rifle Association was little more than a photo op. Leaders of the NRA emerged to say it was not a two-way discussion. Following the meeting, the NRA released a blistering statement accusing the White House of planning to "attack" the Second Amendment. Here is an excerpt:

The Persecuted Church

Kudos to Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA). Once again, Rep. Wolf is taking the lead on an issue that gets too little attention -- the persecution of Christians around the world. Many are frustrated by the silence in Washington when it comes to Christian persecution overseas.
